Why is my marsh plant not growing?

If you are wondering why your marsh plant is not growing, I will give you some tips to grow healthy aquatic pond plants.

Marsh plants, like all aquatic plants, need a warm climate to vegetate, so if you planted them in early spring or late autumn, you will have to wait until spring to see the plants grow.

Plants need direct sun, on average at least half a day of sun exposure per day. There are some species that can tolerate even poorer sun conditions.

If you have purchased an Easy Pond Kit or a Pond Consultation in both cases providing all the accurate information, we select the most suitable plants for your specific context. If, on the other hand, you have chosen the plants directly from the website, it is up to you to carefully read the technical data sheets of each plant.

Another determining factor is the origin of the water. If the water is extremely rich in lime (this can happen frequently if you draw your water from a well) your plants will suffer. If you have placed a plant specifically for an acid PH and instead your water is very hard, it will not adapt and will die.

As before, if you send the accurate information as part of the Easy Pond Kits or the Pond Consultation, we select the most suitable plants, otherwise it is up to you to read the technical data sheets.

Another key aspect is fertile soil and fertilizer. I recommend you to put 3 tablets of Osmocote near the rhizome of the marsh plants. This promotes growth and flowering in a surprising way. Of course, if you grow the marsh plants in gravel and without fertilizer, do not expect any results.

Finally, it is essential to respect the planting depth indicated in the plant data sheets or in the table contained in the green-pink paper manual. Make sure that you have planted the marsh plants at the appropriate planting depth.

If the plant is too deep it will struggle more, or you may even lose it. Where a range of depths is indicated, e.g. -5/-15 cm, the ideal depth at which the plant will grow fastest is in the middle (-10 cm in this case).
