If you are wondering why your lotus flower is not blooming, I will give you some tips to increase flowering.
Lotus flowers are plants that require a very large pot and a well fertilised soil in order to vegetate well and thus to bloom.
First of all it must be said that there are differences on the minimum pot size depending on the size of the lotus, there are dwarf lotuses, small lotuses, medium lotuses and large lotuses. In the data sheets of our lotuses for sale you can find flowering expectations depending on the diameter of the tub in which they are planted.
If, for example, a dwarf lotus is planted in a 30 cm diameter tub, you can expect 3/8 flowers during the period from June to September, whereas for a large lotus the flowering expectation is zero.
Again, for example, for a small lotus in a tub of 80 cm diameter, you can expect to have 15/25 flowers during the period June to September, whereas in a tub of the same diameter, for a large lotus, the expectation is 12/20 flowers.
On the other hand, with regard to lotus flowers born from seeds rather than from division of the rhizomes, you cannot know whether the lotus that is born will be small, medium or large, and you also cannot know whether it will bloom or not.
There are some people who are passionate about growing lotuses from seed. Some lotuses bloom already in the first year, others in the second or third. Sometimes it may even happen that you never see flowers.
If you want to grow a lotus flower, I therefore recommend planting a rhizome, so you know for sure that it will flower in the first year (as long as you plant it in a suitable pot size according to the size of the lotus). You also know in advance what the shape and colour of the flower will be!
Here you can find all the varieties available for sale in the form of rhizomes. In addition, our nursery guarantees the rooting of the rhizome by means of the “100% rooting guarantee”.
