Tetra 6 in 1 Test allows you to roughly measure the parameters of nitrate (NO3), nitrite (NO2), total hardness (GH), carbonate hardness (KH), pH and chlorine.

In a pond, the water parameters you should be most interested in are pH, GH and KH, which are the important ones for checking that the environment is suitable for plants to live and develop.

The pH value indicates the degree of acidity of the water. A value of 7 is neutral. A pH value below 7 indicates that the water is acidic. Above 7 indicates that it is alkaline or basic. To give a practical example, lemon juice is acidic, distilled water is neutral and sodium bicarbonate is basic.
The pH value of your pond water should be between 6.5 and 8 for the health of your plants.

How to use this test:

  • take a strip out of the container without touching the squares with your fingers,
  • dip it in water for 4-5 seconds, shaking it 2-3 times,
  • shake the strip to remove the excess liquid,
  • wait 4-5 minutes for the squares to take on their final colour,
  • compare the result with the graphics on the product label or use the Tetra Aquatics App.
