Floating plants

Floating plants are very invasive aquatic plants that live in a very dirty water (rich in organic substances). They die in water that is too clean.

Floating plants are detrimental to the balance of the pond, as they fill the entire available surface area, taking away space and light from the other plants. In fact, if the entire surface of the pond (or a large part of it) is covered by floating plants, the water lilies and submerged oxygenating plants grow less, and you may even lose them.

In addition, floating plants stop vegetating in autumn and release a large amount of waste at the bottom of the pond, which then encourage the development of algae in spring (as it happens with rotten plant leaves).

If you have a pond or a mini-pond to set up, we recommend that you only include water lilies, marsh plants, and submerged plants, which have obvious benefits for the phyto-purification of the water.
